Japanese owner’s restaurant, SPRING’S offers Vietnamese cuisine for foreigners

Vietnamese restaurant SPRING‘S (47 Phan Ke Binh, Cong Vi, Ba Dinh, Ha Noi) which is run by a Japanese owner opened in Ba Dinh district, Hanoi on May 21.

The owner, Masao Ooyama says “I did not like South East Asian herbs and spices before. Therefore, I came up with my style of Vietnamese cuisine.” The name of the restaurant came from Vietnamese spring rolls.

Ooyama says “Through my life in Vietnam, I recognized Vietnamese food culture has a wide variety of dishes. At the same time, I realized there are many ingredients that foreigners also like.” He also adds “I came up with a fusion Vietnamese menu for tourists who come to Vietnam for the first time and kids who cannot eat herbs and spices.”

The restaurant is on the first and second floors of the building. They have 15 tables, and 5 counter seats and can accommodate approximately 55 people. The second floor is with stage and is used as a kid’s space on weekdays. On the other hand, this area is also used for film screenings and Vietnamese music live sessions on weekends. Customers can also order menus that are offered by Ooyama curry and CAMPUS CAFE. These two restaurants are run by the same owner.

The menu includes; Fried rice with pork (120,000 VND), which uses organic pork; Vietnamese savory pancake, Banh Xeo (200,000 VND); Vietnamese fried shrimp, Banh Tom (160,000 VND); Lunch combo C (165,000 VND) with stewed chicken,  rice, salad, and soup. For drink, they have; Coconuts coffee (50,000 VND); Watermelon juice (40,000 VND); and Lemon smoothie (55,000 VND).

Oyama says “One of the purposes that I opened this restaurant is a cultural exchange in Vietnam. We hold an international cultural exchange event for young locals here every weekend. Also, we have a Vietnamese cooking class so I hope many people will join in.”

Opening hour is from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The parking lot is for 10 motorbikes.
