An exhibition, Tiger Walking in Town by a group of young artists from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts is currently held at Nam Huong communal house (Dinh Nam Huong, 75 Hang Trong, Hoan Kiem, Ha Noi) in Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi.

The exhibition started on March 25. There are 30 works with the theme of tiger, which is the oriental zodiac of this year. The purpose of this exhibition is to develop the value of the Hang Trong Painting, which is a decorative painting for the New Year, and the traditional Nam huong Community House, which is visited by local and foreign tourists. At the same time, it is also positioned as the second part of an art project, From Tradition to Tradition held from 2020 to 2021.

Students spent a month creating art pieces displayed at the venue. In addition to traditional painting materials such as oil paints, lacquer, and silk, the theme is expressed in modern media such as digital art and industrial design. Artists wish they will regain vitality and normal life in this tiger year and they expressed their desire in artworks.

A lecturer at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts and a painter and curator, Nguyen The Son says “Tigers have a ferocious and inaccessible image, but they also have the impression of warmth, protection, strength, and forgiveness.” Nguyen adds “The combination of the lines, colors, layouts that can be found in traditional Vietnamese culture and the creativity of young artists has brought a new perspective to the image of a tiger.”

Nguyen also comments “We have created a liberal and comfortable environment. In this space, young people can create high-quality art. Through the exhibition, we would like to stimulate curiosity about Vietnam’s cultural heritage, especially Hang Trong folk art, which was about to be disappeared. At the same time, we wish this opportunity will be the trigger to remember other cultural heritage.”

Opening hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Free admission. Opening days are until June 25.
